Navigation Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a Navigation Engineer to tackle all navigation and sensor‑fusion challenges across our missile system development portfolio. In this role, you will architect, develop, and validate advanced navigation solutions that enable autonomous flight, precision guidance, and reliable manoeuvrability, while working closely with control, airframe, propulsion, and systems engineers.
At Frankenburg, you will join an exceptional team of leading experts in technology and national defence, building next-generation defence missile systems for the free world. You will work in a fast-paced environment where your contribution shapes how we verify and demonstrate advanced defence systems. If you thrive on innovation and impact — we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Create and refine strap‑down navigation algorithms tailored for contested environments.
Implement probabilistic and deterministic estimation techniques for real‑time sensor fusion and error mitigation.
Build high‑fidelity models of integrated navigation subsystems using model‑based design tools.
Conduct rigorous verification and validation activities, generating performance evidence and quantifying impacts on overall system behaviour.
Translate algorithmic concepts into production‑grade flight firmware, ensuring compliance with safety, reliability, and timing constraints.
Work with software and hardware teams to integrate navigation stacks into missile airframes and UAV platforms.
Recommend enhancements to processes, tools, and methodologies to improve development efficiency and increase performance margins.
We Would Love You to Have
Educational Background
Technical Degree in aerospace engineering, cybernetics, electrical engineering, or related field.Experience
Prior experience in navigation and localisation-related fields of aerospace engineering. Experience in missile, UAV or high-performance aerospace programs is preferred.Technical Skills
Deep understanding of Kalman filtering (KF, EKF, UKF), strap-down inertial navigation system and sensor fusion algorithms. Strong understanding of classical mechanics, dynamics, linear algebra, and stochastic processes. Proficient in model-based design and operational code generation.Soft Skills
Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with exceptional communication skills. Strong focus on delivery with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.Mission Alignment
Strong alignment with our mission to build affordable and mass-manufacturable defence technologies — ensuring every euro spent moves us closer to our goal.Security Clearance
Willingness to undergo a background check as a condition of employment.
Our Values
Our mission is ambitious, and it takes a team that works with the same intensity.
Own the Mission: Mission first. Always.
We choose impact — we focus on what moves the mission forward fastest instead of “nice-to-haves". We fix it now — when delays or problems appear, we step up, rally the right people, and solve them immediately. We keep momentum — when time matters, we stay focused and move forward without waiting for perfect conditions.Strive for More: Dare more. Do more. Achieve the impossible.
We challenge the status quo — we question, test, and improve instead of accepting “the usual way.” We embrace discomfort — we step outside comfort zones and turn challenges into growth. We anticipate the future — we build solutions that scale and set higher standards each time.Build with Trust: Be open. Keep promises.
We walk the talk — what we say, we do. No excuses, no exceptions. We share openly — we communicate clearly and early, even when the news is hard. We own outcomes — we admit errors quickly, fix them, and prevent them from repeating.
