Senior Airframe Design Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Airframe Design Engineer to define advanced missile-airframe architectures that meet mission-specific requirements such as range, agility, payload, and launch environment. In this role, you will lead trade study efforts to deliver optimal solutions that meet every product-lifecycle requirement — particularly the aerodynamics, structures, environmental and system integration aspects. Your expertise will guide decisions from conceptual design through subsystem integration, shaping the performance and reliability.
At Frankenburg, you will join an exceptional team bringing together top engineering and defence expertise from across Europe. While working at the intersection of conceptual design, advanced simulation, and subsystem integration, you will influence next-generation aerospace systems. If you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges and want to make a lasting impact on future aerospace capabilities — we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptual Airframe Design
Develop innovative airframe concepts that meet mission requirements and comply with system constraints.Analysis and Simulation
Perform detailed analysis using high-fidelity models and semi-empirical methods to validate design performance.Integration and Interface Management
Coordinate with control, actuation, mechanical, and propulsion teams to ensure seamless subsystem integration and resolve cross-disciplinary issues.Advanced Optimization
Apply optimization techniques to predict missile dynamics, support system-level simulations, and deliver performance forecasts that guide design decisions.Test Planning and Execution
Plan and conduct tests for experimental verification and numerical model validation.Risk Identification and Mitigation
Identify aerodynamic risks, such as thermal heating, structural coupling, transonic effects, or loss of rudder effectiveness, and propose effective mitigation strategies.
We Would Love You to Have
Educational Background
Master’s degree in mechanical, process, aerospace, or a related engineering field.Experience
Extensive experience in the field of missile or aerospace system design, including aerodynamic design of missiles, rockets, or high-performance UAVs. Experience in experimental verification and validation is preferred.Technical Skills
Advanced knowledge in flight dynamics and high-fidelity numerical modelling.Soft Skills
Solution-oriented mindset, analytical thinking, and keen attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.Mission Alignment
Strong alignment with our mission to build affordable and mass-manufacturable defence technologies — ensuring every euro spent moves us closer to our goal.Security Clearance
Willingness to undergo a background check as a condition of employment.
Our Values
Our mission is ambitious, and it takes a team that works with the same intensity.
Own the Mission: Mission first. Always.
We choose impact — we focus on what moves the mission forward fastest instead of “nice-to-haves". We fix it now — when delays or problems appear, we step up, rally the right people, and solve them immediately. We keep momentum — when time matters, we stay focused and move forward without waiting for perfect conditions.Strive for More: Dare more. Do more. Achieve the impossible.
We challenge the status quo — we question, test, and improve instead of accepting “the usual way.” We embrace discomfort — we step outside comfort zones and turn challenges into growth. We anticipate the future — we build solutions that scale and set higher standards each time.Build with Trust: Be open. Keep promises.
We walk the talk — what we say, we do. No excuses, no exceptions. We share openly — we communicate clearly and early, even when the news is hard. We own outcomes — we admit errors quickly, fix them, and prevent them from repeating.
